JONES Submitter: Renea Isaacs (isaacs@whitemtns.com)

I have in my family records a letter from J.C.C. I am trying to find out who this is. On the return address, it says:

the old man, Lower Penaso [Peñasco], Chavez County, New Mexico, and is postmarked June 5, 1900.

This letter was written to my great-grandfather, James Elias Jones in Emery, Arizona. In the letter, he affectionately calls my granddad "Warbug." He asks him if he "ever aims to come back to Weed."

I believe J.C.C. was a single, old man because of other things he writes in the letter. He also indicates he is getting old and sick. He also tells him "I saw a cow and a yearling the other day and it made me think of you."

Any clues as to who J.C.C., the old man is would be sincerely appreciated.

WINTERHELD Submitter: Lynn Just (lcbjust@cs.com)

Date: 26 Mar 2002

I am looking for information about the WINTERHELD family in Roswell, Chaves Co., New Mexico. I have found a listing on the Social Security Death Index which indicates that Eva WINTERHELD's last residence was Roswell, NM 88201. She was born 15 April 1898 and died in April 1968. I was told that there were other WINTERHELDs in New Mexico, but I am not sure of the specific location. I would guess they were also in Roswell. There may have been a son, or another WINTERHELD named Robert A. WINTERHELD who eventually ended up in Montana. Thank you for any help or information you may be able to give.
HENDRICKS Submitter: Linda Hendricks (genowoman@hotmail.com)

Date: 25 Mar 2002

My husband's great grandfather was George Washington HENDRICKS, one of the owners of the Flying H Ranch in the 1930s to 1940s. He and his brother, A.C., were killed in a plane crash in 1947 in rural Chaves County.

My question is, how did the HENDRICKS family acquire the Flying H? Is it the same Flying H that was involved in the big range wars?

If you can help me, or direct me to the proper sources, I would appreciate it.

JACKSON Submitter: Gayle Glosser (gglosser@aol.com)

Date: 1 May 2002

I am trying to validate information that I was told about an ancestor, Dabney JACKSON, who was supposedly born in Roswell, New Mexico in May 1896. His mother's name was said to be Mary Ella FITZGERALD JACKSON, and his father was also named Dabney JACKSON.

They were reported to have owned a section of land. Dabney JACKSON disappeared in 1922, leaving a wife and newborn son in Texas. His mother sold the land over time, according to these reports, and spent the money on detectives trying to find her only child.

Thank you for any information you may be able to share with me.

EARNEST Submitter: Jane Earnest Jerred (janejerred@aol.com)

Date: 7 June  2002

I am research my family tree and have not made much headway into the whereabouts of an uncle. His name is Curtis EARNEST, son of Luther and Lou EARNEST, brother of John EARNEST, who is my father.

He moved to Roswell with the family in approximately 1917. When he was an adult, he was convicted of a crime and sent to prison. My understanding was that he killed someone in Roswell. He would have been around 22 years old, and the date would have been about 1930 to 1935.

I assume there may have been something in the newspaper about it. I'd like to know if there is a researcher who would look this up for me. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated.
